GATE-COAP Counselling 2024 [goaps.iisc.ac.in]
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering for year 2024 took place from 3rd February 2024 to 11th February 2024. The organizing institution is IISc Bangalore. Application fee for GATE 2024 is 1800 Rs for general candidates and 900 for Females and special categories. For extended period the fee vary from Rs 2300 and Rs 1400 for former and latter category respectively. According to advertisement of exam GATE 2024 results announce on March 16th 2024. These marks are valid for up to 3years. Final GATE cut-off of all test paper release on 22nd March. Students can check the official website for their results.
GATE 2024 counselling usually take place in two different lines i.e COAPs and CCMT. Those who want to take admission in IITs sign themselves up for Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP). For those who want to take admission in IIITs, GFTIs and NITs go for Centralized Counselling for M.Tech./ M.Arch./ M.Plan (CCMT). Both COAP and CCMT are based on GATE scores from any of previous 3 years.
GATE-COAP 2024 Counselling registration open on official website. The guidelines and important dates for registration are available. The first round of GATE-COAP counselling 2024 is on May 13th 2024. There are total 10 rounds and as the rounds go by and seats get filled the IITs stop their counselling. So the last rounds have lesser number of colleges.

What is GATE-COAP ?
COAP is a counselling process for applicants who clear their GATE exam and further move on for admission in IITs. Common Offer Acceptance Portal is official website to apply for collective counselling process of all IITs in India. For COAP 2024 counselling IIT Kanpur is the coordinating institute. COAP 2024 Counselling 1st round from May 13th 2024.
There are 24 participating institutes: IISc Bangalore, IIT Bhilai, IIT Bhubaneshwar, IIT BHU, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Dharwad, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Goa, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Indore, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, IIT Jammu, IIT Jodhpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Mandi, IIT Palakkad, IIT Patna, IIT Roorkee, IIT Ropar and IIT Tirupati.
Each participating Institute will follow the selection procedure as per the norms and guidelines of the respective Institute. To access and make a decision on the most preferred choice out of the offers (if any) made by participating Institute(s), each candidate should register at COAP. For M.Tech admissions follow GATE-CCMT 2024 counselling portal.

- A citizen of India
- Valid GATE score from the year 2024/2023/2022.
- Valid Bachelors degree from a recognised institution
- Admissions in IITs only
Options available to applicants for counselling
All the registered candidates on official website of COAP get 3 options for the offers they get from IITs. These options are sometimes available and sometime not. Therefore it should be checked before hand to avoid missing out on any opportunity. The options are:
| Option-1 | Accept and Freeze | willing to accept one of the available offers and does not like to be considered for upgrading to higher preferences,if any, |
| Option-2 | Retain and Wait | Indicates partial acceptance to any one of the available offers and also would like to be considered for upgrading
to the candidate’s higher preferences, if any, in the subsequent round(s) of offers5 |
| Option-3 | Reject and Wait | not willing to accept any of the offer(s) of admission / job in the current round. Nevertheless, the candidate is considered for other higher preferences, if any, in the subsequent round(s) of admission. Please note, the same offer will not appear in the subsequent rounds as you have rejected this offer.

COAP 2024 counselling Schedule
There are total 10 rounds of counselling where the last round is optional in nature i.e it will take place only if any institute is interested. There are 5 main rounds and 1st round of COAP 2024 counselling date is May 13 2024. Each one of the Additional Rounds 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 is a Decisive Round. That is, the candidates will have only ‘Accept and Freeze’ and ‘Reject’ options in these rounds. The working flowchart of the options can be seen in the flow chart.
Tentative Schedule for first 5 main rounds is as follows:
* No, if you have already used Retain & Wait on the same offer twice. Same offer refers to the program “XYZ” of a particular Institute “ABC”. Rounds 1-4 will have the option of (i) Accept & Freeze (ii) Retain & Wait (iii) Reject & Wait.

Full registration process of GATE-COAP 2024 counselling
- Go to official website of IIT Kanpur
- Click on register for new applicant or Log in for old applicant. If you have register in any previous year you have to register again.
- Enter your information like GATE Registration Number, GATE Paper Code, GATE Score, Applicant’s Name as Per GATE Registration, Date of Birth, Email ID, Mobile Number
- Review your application and Click ‘Final Submit’.
- Your 2024 COAP counselling registration in now complete.
Registration will only be successful, when a candidate completes the log-in procedure with the help of the input received via Email / SMS. Email will contain a website URL for logging-in along with the log-in ID.SMS will contain the password.
